Clear exit monitor is a user aid only. It remains the responsibility of the user to open the door with due care and attention. Make sure the door is opened in a manner which is safe for the vehicle, its occupants and other road users. Failure to open doors safely could cause serious injury or damage to the vehicle.

Make sure that the clear exit warning icons and indicators are not obscured by stickers or other objects. Obscured warning icons will impair the user's ability to utilise the feature, which could cause damage to the vehicle.

Do not attach stickers or objects to the rear bumper as these could impair the operation of the clear exit monitor feature.

Clear exit monitor warns of another vehicle, or moving object approaching from behind when the door has been unlatched from the inside. Sensors in the rear bumper monitor nearby traffic. If the system determines that opening the door could be unsafe, due to passing traffic, it gives a visible warning to the occupant. The system does not prevent the door from being opened. Clear exit monitor is fitted to rear doors only.

The Clear exit monitor system activates only when the door has been unlatched. The icons illuminate as follows:

  1. Illuminates white to indicate that the system is active.

  2. Illuminates amber if the system determines that it could be unsafe to open the door, due to passing traffic.

The icons extinguish after the door has been closed.

The Clear exit monitor system may not be able to detect all approaching traffic in all circumstances. Operation relies on the sensor’s ability to detect moving objects and this may be affected by road and weather conditions, and, also, if:

  • Vehicles approach very quickly from behind.

  • The sensors are impaired by mud, rain, frost, ice, snow, damage, accessories, or stickers.

  • The sensor’s ‘line of sight’ is obscured by objects, such as other vehicles parked particularly wide or close to the vehicle.

Under these circumstances, as well as loss of functionality, reduced warning times may be experienced.

Clear exit monitor is only active below vehicle speeds of 3 mph (5 km/h). The system remains active for 3 minutes after the vehicle is switched off.
