USING SNOW CHAINS

WARNING

Make sure to read and fully understand the following warnings. Failure to comply with the safety instructions could result in an accident, leading to serious injury or death.

WARNING

Only use traction devices in heavy snow conditions, on compacted snow.

WARNING

Never exceed 50 km/h (30 mph) when traction devices are fitted.

WARNING

Never fit traction devices to a temporary-use spare wheel.

NOTES

When using snow chains, select the rain ice snow driving mode. See RAIN ICE SNOW MODE.

Traction devices approved by the vehicle manufacturer may be used to improve traction in heavy snow conditions, on compacted snow.

Traction devices should not be used in off-road conditions where there is no compacted snow.

If it becomes necessary to fit traction devices, the following points must be observed:

  • Only vehicle manufacturer approved traction devices should be used on the vehicle. Only vehicle manufacturer approved traction devices have been tested to make sure that the devices do not cause damage to the vehicle. Contact a retailer/authorised repairer for information.

  • The wheels and tyres fitted to the vehicle must conform to the specifications of the vehicle manufacturer's original equipment. This helps to enhance the performance of the traction devices. See TYRE MARKINGS.

  • Full chain traction devices can be fitted to the rear wheels of vehicles fitted with 18, 19 and 20 in diameter wheels. Half chain devices can be fitted to 225/65 R17, 235/65 R17 and 235/60 R18 tyres only on the primary driven front axle.

  • It is not possible to fit snow chains to 19, 20 and 21 on front wheels. However, 17 or 18 in wheel and tyre assemblies can be fitted all round as an alternative, depending on the brake size of the vehicle.

  • Do not fit a traction device to a temporary-use spare wheel.

  • Always read, understand, and follow the traction device manufacturer's instructions. Pay particular attention to the maximum speed and fitting instructions.

  • Fit traction devices in pairs and on the same axle.

  • To avoid tyre and/or vehicle damage, remove traction devices as soon as the conditions allow.

NOTES

Contact a retailer/authorised repairer for details and availability of approved snow chains.
