AIR BAG WARNING LAMP

WARNING

Even with advanced air bags, children can be seriously injured or killed. Never place a child in any type of child restraint or booster seat in the front passenger seat. Children under the age of 13 should always ride in the rear.

WARNING

The air bag warning lamp indicates a potential fault with the vehicle's restraint system. A fault with the restraint system could result in serious injury or death in the event of a severe accident.

WARNING

If the air bag warning lamp indicates that a fault is present in the system, do not use a child restraint on the front passenger seat. In the event of a severe accident, serious injury or death could result.

The instrument panel displays the air bag warning lamp as a bulb check when the ignition is switched on. See AIR BAG (AMBER).

If any of the following air bag warning lamp conditions occur, the vehicle should be checked by a retailer/authorized repairer immediately:

  • The warning lamp fails to illuminate when the ignition is switched on.

  • The warning lamp fails to extinguish within 6 seconds of the ignition being switched on.

  • The warning lamp illuminates at any time other than during the bulb check when the ignition is switched on.

When the ignition is switched on, a diagnostic control unit monitors the readiness of the system’s electrical circuits. The elements of the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) being monitored include:

  • Air bag warning lamp.

  • Rotary coupler.

  • Air bag modules.

  • Front and outboard rear seat belt pre-tensioners.

  • Front seat belt buckle switches.

  • Front seat track position sensor.

  • Air bag diagnostic control unit.

  • Crash and rollover sensors.

  • Air bag wiring harness.

  • Air bag status indicator lamp.

  • Seat occupancy sensor.

  • Front passenger seat belt tension sensor.
