During vehicle recovery, a smart key must remain inside the vehicle, so that the steering column remains unlocked. See RECOVERY METHOD.

The vehicle is fitted with an electronic steering column lock, which locks and unlocks in conjunction with the vehicle's locking system. It also locks automatically, after a time delay, if the vehicle's ignition is switched off and the smart key is removed from the vehicle.

Any malfunction of the steering column lock is indicated by the message Steering column locked being displayed in the message center. If this occurs:

  1. Lock and then unlock the vehicle using the smart key.

  2. Try again to unlock the steering column lock, by turning the steering wheel gently to the left and right.

If the problem persists, seek qualified assistance immediately.


The steering column lock may malfunction if the steering column is under load. For example, if the vehicle is parked with the steering on full lock, the steering wheel position my inadvertently press a front tire against the curb.
